Privacy Policy

BiteSafe is a food allergy and symptom tracking app. Your health data is sensitive, and this document explains exactly what the app handles, where it lives, and how it is protected. The short version: your logs stay on your device, and AI processing is transient — nothing is stored on any server.

1. What the app stores (on your device only)

BiteSafe stores all of your records locally on your iPhone using Apple's SwiftData framework. We do not maintain user accounts and do not store your personal data on our servers:

• Meal entries — title, ingredients, date and time, and meal photos
• Symptom entries — type, severity, date and time
• Profiles — names, known allergens, medications, and emergency contacts for you and family members
• App preferences — reminders, appearance, and similar settings

2. AI features and transient processing

BiteSafe offers optional AI features: meal scanning, food analysis, menu analysis, and wellness reports. When you use them, the relevant data — a food or menu photo, or a summary of your meal and symptom logs — is sent to our Supabase Edge Functions backend, which relays the request to Anthropic's Claude AI model for analysis.

• Data is transmitted securely via HTTPS.
• Requests are processed in real time and are not stored on the server after processing.
• AI features are entirely optional — core tracking works without any data leaving your device.
• There are no user accounts or server-side database: the backend acts only as a relay for AI requests.

3. Barcode lookups

When you scan a packaged food barcode, the barcode number is sent to the OpenFoodFacts API to look up the product's ingredients and allergens. Only the barcode number is sent — no personal or health data.

4. Purchases

BiteSafe Premium subscriptions are processed by Apple (StoreKit 2) and managed through the Adapty SDK for subscription and paywall management. Purchase history is used only for subscription management and is not used for tracking. No health data is shared with Adapty.

5. What we never collect

• No accounts. We never ask you to sign up, and we hold no user database.
• No stored photos or logs on servers. Photos and log summaries sent for AI analysis are discarded after processing.
• No advertising or analytics. BiteSafe includes no third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs. We do not track your usage behavior, build user profiles, or share data for marketing purposes.

6. Device permissions

• Camera — scans meals, restaurant menus, and barcodes; used only when you actively take a photo or scan.
• Photo library — lets you choose an existing food photo for logging or analysis.
• Notifications — local reminders only; no push server is involved.

7. Third-party services

• Supabase Edge Functions: hosts the serverless functions that relay AI requests. No user accounts, no database, no data stored.
• Anthropic (Claude AI): processes AI meal, menu, and nutrition analysis and wellness reports. Data is not retained after processing.
• OpenFoodFacts API: receives barcode numbers for product ingredient lookup.
• Adapty: manages subscriptions and paywalls on top of Apple's StoreKit 2. Not used for tracking.

8. Children's privacy

BiteSafe is designed to be used by parents and caregivers to track food allergies for children. The app does not knowingly collect data from children under 13 without parental involvement, and AI features should be used under parental supervision for minors. All child-related records live only on the parent's device.

9. Data ownership, retention, and deletion

You own all data you enter into BiteSafe. It is retained on your device until you delete it — nothing is retained on our side. You can export your data as CSV or doctor-ready PDF reports, and you can permanently delete all records at any time from within the app. Deleting the app also deletes its data. Since we store nothing on external servers, deletion is complete and immediate.

10. Updates to this policy

We update this policy when there's a material change. The update date appears at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
